Man it's been awhile since I've written here! No particular reason, just haven't been around a computer enough to type something up. Let's update shall we?
J, my family and I (minus my brother) took a trip to Puerto Rico! By far my favorite trip there yet. My family is a group of the most caring people and made sure we had a blast!
That would be J and I in front of one of the waterfalls in the rainforest. We saw lots of fun things and ate a ton of yummy food!
Pregnancy is going well. I will be 30 weeks on Monday... say what?? That would mean ten weeks until the big day. This pregnancy has really flown by. We've been taking Bradley birth classes, which have eased my fears of childbirth a ton. It's been nice to get to know other couples too.
I'm at the point of my pregnancy where I will be seeing my doctors every two weeks. We took a hospital tour and I think we made a great choice in having the delivery at The Family Birth Place at St Vincent's Southside. We have another growth scan next week, and maybe we will be able to get another shot of baby boy's cute face!
Oh and did I mention he has a name?
I've also been working on a few things for the nursery. I saw these art prints at Pottery Barn Kids, but they were sold out of most of them and kind of pricey:
So I decided to make my own:
I think they came out great! Plus WAY cheaper and a lot more fun to do.
Our house is coming along too. We have a contractor coming out to do our backsplash for our kitchen and another to finish up the drywall in the dining room. My project next week is to order photos and prints for our gallery wall in the living room. Oh and find a rug too!
So that's life in a nutshell. I hope everyone has a fabulous Fourth of July!!!

Trust
I've been loving this idea of having a word for 2014. I very rarely make resolutions (mostly because I don't see my life in calendar years, but in school years) but the idea of having a word to live my life around really speaks to me.
2013 was a year that taught me a lot about LOVE. I've always known J loves me (duh, why would I have married him! :)) but it's been wonderful to realize how he chooses to show it. My ENTIRE family came from Puerto Rico to be at my wedding. I don't get to see them as often as I like (if anyone figures out a cheap way to get to San Juan, let me know!) but seeing their happy faces in my wedding photos just shows me how much they care. Same for J's family. It's been nice to have this whole other family where I know that I am cared about. My own family taught me about love as well. So I suppose my word for 2013 probably should have been LOVE.
For 2014, I am going to with the word TRUST. If you;ve read me awhile, you've probably figured out that I overanalyze EVERYTHING. I think about things over and over and over and over. It's hard to just let things be.
So that's where TRUST comes in.

I need to not only trust in the Lord more, but I need to trust myself. I know what I am good at and I know that I am a good person. I need to believe and trust in that during those overanalytical times.
There are many things that I am hoping for this year, but many of those things I cannot control. So I need to trust that things will happen when they happen.

And I need to trust that overall good things do happen a lot of the time. Goes back to that overthinking bit.
So here's to TRUST in 2014. :)
What's your word for 2014? Do you make and stick to your resolutions?

Days off are so refreshing!
Just like everyone else, I love an extra day off. It's just nice to have an extra day to get things done. Here's some of what I got accomplished today:
- Lesson plans. This wasn't too difficult, since my team and I share, but I like putting them in my words so I can remember it better.
- Cleaned the bathroom. It's a chore that always gets left off.
- Went to breakfast with my one of my closest friends. I don't get to see her as much as I used to, so this was nice!
- Folded all of J's laundry. Boys are dirty and their laundry piles up faster than anything else I've seen!
- Tried one of my pinned crock pot recipes. My house smells heavenly right now!
- Bought and made the caramel apple cake mix. even better? Finally used the cake pop pan my mother in law bought me for my shower! I'm going to melt some caramels and have a mini fondue party with J for dessert!
- Order honeymoon prints! J and I bought a cute scrapbooking set before we got off the Carnival Dream but I haven't ordered the pictures. Finally did today! And I ordered a print of the two of us at our wedding to mail to my grandma. She keeps bugging my mom about it!
- Had a DIY mani/pedi time while catching up on Revenge!
Man! That was a lot wasn't it? It was nice to have the day off and be able to do everything I needed to do in a relaxing way!
Here's to a great week!

Better week
Last week, I posted how I was getting too into my head. (Ugh, that sentence is so wrong but it's the only way I can explain it!)
So I decided to be proactive (my school uses the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People for kids) and get around the cause of all my stress (my own mind!)
And I was successful! Whenever something happened that I would have previously analyzed or moaned about for hours or days, I told myself, you can't control that/them. I would remind myself of my own positives.
I also took advantage of any free time I had during the day at school to prepare for the next day. It was nice to come home and not stress about waking up early or try and do some work. It allowed me to have more time with J. We even took two walks this week around our neighborhood. The walks were perfect! Nice weather and good conversation! They made me feel a heck of a lot closer to him, which is exactly what we had been needing!
I'm going to continue to attempt to do the same this week. It's going to be a struggle, because we have a major district visit on Tuesday. The head honchos of curriculum will be in my room. But here's the thing: I know I am a good teacher and I know they will find something wrong. Hopefully what they find "wrong" will be something constructive. I appreciate constructive criticism; I can't stand nitpicking!
Have a wonderful week!

I write about this all the time...
I internalize everything. I take things that happen (especially the not positive ones) and keep them in my head, playing them over and over AND over. It's not a good habit, I know this. But it's one that I constantly struggle with. Especially when it comes to work.
I adore my class. But it's the things outside of the classroom that bring me down. And I'm not gonna write the instances here because I don't know who may or may not stumble across this. But know that it's bringing me down. It makes me want to cry because I just don't know what else to do. I tell myself, let it go. Keep quiet. Don't disagree. Keep your thoughts to yourself. And none of that ever happens.
And the worse part is, these feelings are seeping into parts of my life that are great. Like my actual classroom and my actual class. My marriage. My friendships. My face ( seriously, I haven't had acne this bad since I was in college!) And I don't want that to keep happening.
So I hit up Pinterest in hope of finding some quotes that I can say to myself. Affirmations I suppose. Here are some of my favorites.
The bottom hit me the most. I have ALWAYS known it is a choice to be happy. I just don't know why it's so hard to make that choice. But I suppose the best things in life do come from hard choices.
Thanks for letting me vent friends! How do you handle your own internalizations?

Things I'm loving right now...
So, I've had LOTS of negative thoughts running through my head. Just work stress and other life stress. And I realized I haven't thought much about the good in my life. So here goes:
Things Nilda is loving at the moment:
Things Nilda is loving at the moment:
- My class. They are by far the sweetest group I've ever had. Teaching them is so much fun!
- Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure. They redid the formula and seriously, this stuff stays on. Almost even better than ::gasp:: Essie!
- My me time tonight. J's out with some friends and while I do miss him (kinda odd being alone in this house) it's been nice to have some me time. Sushi, cocunut cream cheese cake, bubble bath and all my girly DVRed shows= a good night.
- Salmon Katsu rolls. My new favorite sushi roll.
- It was cool all day today! The a/c didn't turn on in my classroom once. Supposed to be a beautiful day tomorrow too!
- Being married. Cheesy I know, but it's been fun getting to be around my best friend all the time.
- Being done with thank you cards! They will be mailed Friday, just in time to beat the three month etiquette deadline!
- My new Stella and Dot necklaces. Seriously they go with everything!
- Elizabeth Smart's book My Story. Now I obvs don't love what happened to her, but a) it's been nice to read something not school related and b) it's just an inspiring story!
- I FINALLY figured out how to make my own task cards with cute frames and font and all! No more shelling out money on TeachersPayTeachers for things I can make myself!
- Since it's cooler out, Athena, my kitty has been much much cuddlier!
- My two partners for the Carabox swap. It's been fun really getting to know each of them!
So that's a bit of what I'm loving at the moment. Just writing it out makes me feel better.
Ever need to focus on the positive more? What would be on your loving at the moment list??

My Happy List
I know everyone else is doing it, but today's topic really made me realize just now that I need to focus on the GOOD in my life.
Plus, whenever I'm annoyed, I can always look back at this list and smile! So without further fanfare, Nilda's Happy List!
This guy. I get to marry this guy in less than 60 days! CRAZY! I adore him and it sounds completely cheesy to say, but I know he will always be there for me. No matter what.
My family. My immediate family is AMAZING but my extended family is just as wonderful. And with the exception of my dear grandpa, they are ALL coming for my wedding. From Puerto Rico. Not cheap yo!
One of the best decisions EVER was adopting this little one! She brings a smile to my face at minimum once a day!
Reading. No matter what I'm going through, books take me somewhere magical and freeing. I sound like a complete NERD but hey that's who I am.
Even though it can be a stressor, I love my job. Mostly for moments like today where my kiddos were completely ENTHRALLED in watching these two squirrels chase each other around the huge trees in our courtyard.
Who'd thought the GYM would make it to my happy list? Not only is it a place where I get to see on of my newest favorite people, but also it just makes me feel better. Even at 5 a.m.
Clothes. Whether I'm buying them for me or for someone else, new clothes make me happy. Silly? Maybe. But I've learned to not buy when I'm feeling down.
Not sure when or how this started but pretty nail polish is my thing. Maybe from all the compliments I get now? Plus it's just straight up FUN to change colors.
FOOTBALL. Going to the Jaguars Rookie Camp last week was a TOTAL tease. September needs to get here ASAP.
Cooking and baking. I love following a recipe or twisting one and making it my own. I especially love doing this for other people. I think it's the Latin in me. :)
Any of these things make it on your happy list? What would go on your own happy list?

Feeling accomplished!
Lately I've been feeling very proud of myself? Why? I've been accomplishing a whole lot of things lately! Check it out:
Wedding
These were SO simple to make and SO tasty. I love anything with Alfredo sauce.
J really loved these. Since we had left over chicken from the pizzas, these were also very easy AND cheap to make.
I did this yesterday, and they look FABULOUS last night. After a day of work, I need to touch them up, but I recevied a lot of ompliments on it!
Dr. Seuss's birthday was Saturday. My class celebrated today, and I made this yummy dessert for them. Their faces were PRICELESS when they came in and saw the treats on their desk.
So while none of these are life0changing accomplishments, you have to celebrate the little things right??
Wedding
- bought J's ring. He chose a white gold band. Very classic, very him.
- chose suits for the bridal party. Taupe suits with brown vests. Love!
- I have a tutoring job. I cashed my first check and immediately put it into the HONEYMOON envelope. J had the idea to put extra cash in this envelope for various cruise expenses. Felt good to actually contribute!
- approved the proofs for the invitations. Now just have to order them!
- Completed the DIY part of my bridesmaids' gifts:
Aren't they pretty? Probably going to make myself one!
Pinterest
I've also attempted quite a few of my pins. I totally stink as a blogger, because I forget to take pictures of my versions, but I promise you, they turned out great!

Days off...
When I get a day off (not including weekends) I try and tackle it one of two ways:
This quote is the opposite of so many that I see about living life today, but sometimes a way to live life is to just relax.
I don't regret relaxing today. I finished lesson plans, delivered a birthday gift and came home. Once home, I stayed in my comfortable sweats (it's still freezing!) and watched Top Chef, Pretty Little Liars and Revenge, all while cuddling my cat. Now I'm waiting for J to arrive so we can go to church to meet with our coordinator.
All in all, a great day. Hope you had a great day as well!
- Go, go, go! Meaning taking care of business, cleaning, finishing plans, whatever. When I am in GO! mode, I like to stay busy.
- Chill and relax. When I'm in this mode, I still take care of things, but I also lounge and read. Catch up on my shows. Take a nap.
I used to think the latter was not as good as the former. But you need some chill days sometimes, ya know? You need days when you spend time just not stressing about life.

This is a first... Confidence
It's the night before my big annual observation. My observation with my new principal. Normally this would have me COMPLETELY freaked out. I would have stayed at work until late, cleaning every nook and cranny and going over each step of my plan.
But I didn't do that. I left at 4:00. I felt confident discussing my students with my principal. I'm not worried. Will I still sweat every little thing when he walks in? Of course. I'm an overachiever. It's in my blood. At the same time, I'm calm.
Is this what feeling confident is all about? Knowing that my kids are great and I've prepared them wonderfully and that there's nothing else I can do? Enjoying my Chinese food and not imagining the things that can go wrong?
People tell me I'm great and I don't know why I don't believe them. I need to feel the way I do right now all the time. Not question everything.
Anyone ever felt like this? Anyone ever had an AHA moment when they realize the feeling that they have is one of confidence? It's interesting, isn't it?

Random things...
-J surprises me constantly. When I saw this post on the The Six Sisters blog about 14 days of Valentine's gifts, I thought I'd give it a shot. It seemed like an affordable idea and a cute one at that. I thought that J would give me a hard time about it being to cheesy, but he's been LOVING all the gifts. He's been asking me every day about his next one. So thanks Six Sisters for making this such a fun Valentine's!
These are a few of my gifts to J. He's really enjoyed them!
-My observation is this Wednesday. I've been frustrated at work lately because people on my team are getting credit for my ideas. But I realized I shouldn't be mad at that; I should be flattered that my ideas have helped them. I'm only slightly nervous about my observation; the topic is something familiar and my kids are awesome, so I think everything will go okay.
-My newest food obsession are onion rings. Why? Who knows? I went to my friend's house last weekend for dinner and she served these awesome baked onion rings. On Friday, J and I went to Mojo's BBQ, this amazing BBQ place in Jacksonville Beach. We ordered onion rings and these are what we got:
Aren't those the BIGGEST onion rings you've ever seen? Needless to say, they were delicious, even as left overs!
-The Grammys have been fairly entertaining. Usually I've turned them off by now, but I'm really enjoying the performances. I think I liked the performances by Justin Timberlake, fun. and Miranda Lambert the best so far.
-On Tuesday, it will be exactly five months until my wedding. AH! So crazy. I really can't wait, but at the same time I'm trying to enjoy my engagement as much as possible.
End of my random post. I hope Monday treats everyone well!

Things I know to be true...
I've been in a rut you guys. I've been letting a lot of things get to me. I feel myself shifting in reverse, back into the person I was at my old school. A person that doesn't feel like she's good at her job. A person who gossips. A person who isn't happy.
Those feelings are seeping into other areas of my life. So I decided to tell them to STOP! And make a list of things that are true that are POSITIVE:
Here goes:
So true. Any advice out there, blog friends? Have a wonderful Sunday!

Here goes:
- I'm a strong teacher. My students are growing into readers and lovers of learning. I've taken a student from another class and everyone is surprised to see his bright and sweet side. I've done this for a few years now and need to stop letting people make me doubt myself.
- My family is awesome. It's completely dorky, but I'm super excited that they are who I am watching the Super Bowl with. It's going to be a blast.
- J is wonderful. I need to show him I appreciate him more, because when I think of my life before him, I can't even remember that person.
- I have great friends. Not that many, but the ones that I have are the best. I'm definitely going to plan time with them every week.
So true. Any advice out there, blog friends? Have a wonderful Sunday!

Hello, weekend
This week flew. Seriously, today's Friday? I was go go go every single day. Probably due to the amount of conferences I had. Yay for supportive parents.
So on to the five best things that happened this week:
1. Happy hour with a new friend from work on Tuesday was wonderful! Hit up Cheesecake Factory for a yummy drink and yummy apps. Plus hanging out with Katie is always a plus!
2. My new principal came in and was so impressed with how well my firsties were working. He said he didn't have to watch my actual teaching because it shined through my kids. SCORE!
3. My engagement photos came in! Here are a few of my favorites:

Why hello Friday!
Didn't I just see you a few days ago? Four day weeks FLY by when you have a Monday off. Overall, while this was a mad busy week (hello two different family nights!) it was a pretty great one too. Let's get to it!
1. I completed my kiddos' mid year reading assessment and they ALL grew! My little one that knows no English, knew all his letter names and most of the sounds and TWO sight words. AMAZING! SO proud of them.
2. I received my Carabox from the fabulous Brenda, over at Totally Brenda. I can't wait to share the contents with all of you!
3. Stuck to my eating healthy lunch goal by making these fun but simple DIY lunchables. Got the inspiration off of Pinterest!
Best part? Combined with my yogurt, it kept me full until my snack on the ride home. SCORE!
4. My wedding photographer posted the pictures of the engagement session that she did the night before mine which means.... my engagement session photos should be ready ANY day now. So ready to see how they turned out!
5. Thanks to having to stay for a family night, I finished my lesson plans for next week. Which means a weekend of being completely LAZY. Yes!!!
Hope all you have a wonderful Friday and a great weekend. Hello to any new followers stopping by from Lipgloss and Crayons!

Things always happen for a reason...
Now I never ever post about my faith on here. It's something that has always been so up and down for me. Plus I find it to be an extremely personal thing. But yesterday was such an interesting day, I felt the need to record it.
J has been trying to get me to go to Mass for weeks now. I've always come up with an excuse as to why I can't. Even though, I know I SHOULD go, since you know I'm getting married in the Catholic Church and all.
Finally this morning, J convinced me to go. I don't really know how or why, but I got out of bed and got ready and waited for him to come and get me. In a way, I was excited because we were going to Mass at the parish we are getting married in, and he had never seen the inside of my church. Which I think is absolutely beautiful (but really what church isn't?)
I always preview the day's readings, just to get a feel for the morning. I gasped when I realized that the Gospel that day was going to be the story of how Jesus turned the water into wine at the wedding in Cana. I thought to myself "WEIRD! Out of all the days to come to Mass, we come on the day when the reading is the wedding story. What a coincidence." I didn't think much of it after that.
As the Mass went on, other things occurred The Psalm readings were all about giving yourself to the Lord and not worrying if you've made mistakes. My priest's sermon was all about how it's never too late to change your thoughts and to allow the Lord a place in your life. That the Cana story teaches us about Jesus's flexibility and how things can always change for the better if you believe. One of the songs we sang was asking the Lord to help us open our eyes, ears, and hearts.
It's the most touched I've ever been at Mass. I felt at peace when I left, something I haven't felt all week. I've always fought my faith (if that makes any sense) and today I didn't feel like I had to.
So I don't think it was a coincidence that this was the first Mass I chose to go to in a long while. And it just cements my belief that everything always happens for a reason.
Funny how that happens isn't it?

Deciding to be more positive...
It's been a rough few days at work. My new principal seems great, but being through this before, I'm having a hard time accepting that it's truly his intent and not a show. That makes me feel AWFUL, because he doesn't deserve that.
I'm also having a hard time being nice to the people at work that are causing drama. Causing my VP to be upset. She's a great person and I hate seeing her that way.
In my year end wrap up post, I wrote that I hope 2013 is as great as 2012 was for me. I can't let that goal go to waste. I let things get to me and that's not right or fair.
So starting today, I'm going to begin my positive journal again. It's helped in the past, and I hope it will help now.
The steps for my positive journal are pretty simple:
Amazing quote right? So much harder to do than say, but still completely true. Happy Saturday to all!

The steps for my positive journal are pretty simple:
- buy a super cute journal or even make one. I feel it makes it more fun!
- think of three good things that happened that day. They can be little or big, superficial or deep, it doesn't matter. Just as long as they were good!
- Write them down! It's neat to look back and see what made me smile.
It's a challenge some days, but it's really worth it. Can't wait to share what positive things this helps me discover!

Wisdom teeth stink...
I HATE DENTAL PROCEDURES. I know, I know, most people do as well, but I have NEVER had a good dental experience.
Exhibit A: 1994
Had to have a baby tooth pulled because it had a massive cavity. Gave me some novacaine. Everything going splendid...until novacaine WEARS off halfway through! They were almost done, so the dentist just finished it without pain meds. My dad still has the scars on his hand from where I gripped his hand.
Exhibit B: 2011
I had to have a root canal. The actual root canal went OK. But the crown procedure did not. The dental hygienist sucked and apparently didn't send off the right mold. So my dentist bitched me out for waiting so long to get my permanent crown. When she realized it was her people's mistake, she made me a new one. But it still didn't fit, so she had to scrape away my gum. Oy vey.
Exhibit C: 2012
My first cleaning this year, I had to have a deep cleaning. My fault for not being the greatest dental health person. (Please don't reprimand me! I know, I know.) I brush my teeth twice daily but that's about it. After experience the awfulness that is a deep cleaning, I was an ideal dental health person. Took the nasty mouth wash and everything.
So I was told I wouldn't need another deep cleaning. But apparently, halfway through my second annual cleaning, which was a deep cleaning, my dentist realized no one had ever updated my chart. So I had to go through a deep cleaning for NO REASON!!!
So needless to say I was NOT looking forward to my wisdom teeth extraction today. After I woke up, I felt ok. In a bit pain, but okay. Dr. checked me out, gave me some more gauze and sent me on my way.
I was halfway home when I realized something was wrong. My mouth wouldn't stop filling up with blood and I felt faint. After stopping at critical care, they sent me back to my surgeon. He took very good care of me, putting meds and stitching me up. When I asked if what happened was normal, he said there's a very small chance of not clotting and that I was today's lucky winner. YAY me.
So now I'm sitting on my couch, eating some mashed potatoes and watching the latest season of Army Wives. It's like Netflix knew I'd be sitting on my butt for a few days so they added new episodes.
Any of you ever had dental issues? Here's my plan for the rest of the weekend:

I need this...
I noticed that Erin at Living In Yellow is doing a really cool link up called I Believe In. Her list is a mixture of hilarious and serious. Which is just like her blog.
Here's my own list:
I believe in... having dessert after every meal.
I believe in... high expectations that are appropriate for my students.
I believe in... naps on the weekends with my kitty.
I believe in... listening to those with more experience than you.
I believe in... spending as much time as possible with those you love.
I believe in... letting things go. Nothing good comes from grudges.
I believe in... supporting your team no matter what!
I believe in... going to Disney World and letting your inner child free!
I believe in... watching Big Bang Theory whenever an episode is on. BAZINGA!
I believe in... getting lost in a good book.
I believe in... friends who can go ages without talking but are there for you in a heartbeat.
I believe in taking chances.
That's all that I could think of at the moment, but it helped brighten my dreary day. What do you believe in?

Sometimes you just need a lazy day...
My plan for today was to be productive. I wanted to organize my bathroom, finish my math plans, and type up the grade level newsletter so I could really enjoy tomorrow and Monday. But those plans were stifled.
Yep, stifled by BUG BITES! Ugh. My ankle got bitten twice in the same spot at two different times yesterday. I woke up today and my ankle was swollen beyond belief. Walking made the bites itch, so I just had a lazy day in front of my TV, where I am finishing HIMYM on Netflix.
The lazy day was exactly what I needed. I've been going non stop since school started. NON STOP. I want to help my kiddos and help the new teachers on my team. But this lazy day showed me I need to take time for myself.
So I set some goals for next week:

So I set some goals for next week:
- Set an agenda for grade level meetings. They've been getting off track and I've been feeling intimidated and worried about stepping on people's toes. I need to lead. So hopefully the agenda works.
- Go to the gym at least twice, if not three times. I'm going to pack my gym bag and leave it in my car every night.
- Leave work by 4:30 (except on the grade level planning day.). Balance is important.I need to spend time with J and the other people that I love.
- Read a book for fun each night and disconnect from the internets. Guys, I love reading your blogs but sometimes I find myself spending hours at night on my computer and that's not good. Here's to going back to reading for fun.

3. My two year anniversary was this week. Will be celebrating it tomorrow at the Melting Pot!
4. Will be helping out new freshman at my alma mater tomorrow. Love the good ol FC!
5. My school picture turned out great!
Hope you had a good week too! Hopefully I'll relax this weekend. Linking up Lauren at From My Grey Desk Blog.
